Positive Patient Comments!

To celebrate the great work we do here at UHS, we want to share the patient comments that we receive.

  • My nurse was very kind and personable.
  • My physician was very helpful, very informative, and made me feel at ease about my issue. I was very comfortable and not in any pain whatsoever. I would absolutely recommend these services to others.
  • All staff members were very kind and comforting. Made me feel much better being sick away from home.
  • Both the nurse and doctor were very nice and took care of all my concerns
  • Dr. Delisle was absolutely wonderful and kind. He really listened to my concerns and seemed to care
  • Everyone was so nice!
  • Ellen is a great and caring nurse
  • Ann Klassen is a wonderful provider. She conducted a thorough eye exam and correctly concluded that my eye issue was serious and urgently referred me to an opthalmologist that I was able to see on the same day. Ann is not only professional, and technically excellent, but also has so much compassion and care for her patients.
  • Nurse Practitioner Alice was outstanding. She explained the process of the appointment every step of the way, and always made me feel normal and comfortable. The RN I encountered as well (forgive me, I cannot recall her name) was also very cool through the whole process. She made good conversation and was an excellent chaperone.
  • Thanks a lot!
  • It was good!
  • The visit was as pleasant as it could be. Everyone was kind and professional.

UHS Employee Suggestions

All suggestions will be reviewed by leadership and assigned to work teams as appropriate. You may submit a suggestion anonymously, but if you would like to participate on a team to implement your idea or receive an update please include your name.

To complete the online form, click here.

To complete a paper copy, visit your closest program room to obtain a form. Once completed, place the form in the gray lock box.

Below are some of the suggestions that have been submitted and the actions taken:

  • Request: Why do we not do anything to celebrate nurse week anymore? UHS used to do nice things to honor the nurses who work so hard and do a great job for us. It would be nice to see this reimplemented.
  • Result:

Thank you for sharing this suggestion. At UHS, we deeply value our nurses and the critical role they play in carrying out our mission. This year, we recognized Nurse Appreciation Week by hanging a banner in their honor and sharing a story post on our social media channels. In previous years, the weeklong celebrations were organized and funded by nursing leadership, which is why they may have looked a little different this year.

As our Employee Enrichment Team continues to grow and re-engage, we are excited to expand recognition efforts for all staff during their respective appreciation days, weeks, and months--including Nurse Appreciation Week. We look forward to celebrating our nurses, along with all of our dedicated team members, in meaningful ways moving forward.

Hip Hip Hooray

In your program rooms you will see yellow pieces of paper labeled Hip Hip Hooray. The Professional Development Committee wants to encourage our staff to use this simple way to show gratitude to your fellow colleagues and to recognize individuals or groups for a noteworthy act or effort.

Simply complete the slip and place it in the gray lock box (same as staff suggestions). Someone from the committee will collect these slips and place them on our shoutout boards for you all to see.

Who deserves a hip hip hooray and what did they do?
  • Dan & Troy: Always responds quickly and solves the problem right away. I appreciate them!

July 2025

As we step into the Fall 2025 semester, I’m excited for all that we have in store. With move-in starting, there is new energy on campus, and I’m grateful to be part of a team so committed to student well-being.

Before our recent Professional Development Day, we had the pleasure of hosting a mixer with our colleagues from CAPS. It was heartening to see staff from both departments come together in a fun-filled, collegial setting. These moments of connection—outside our daily routines—are essential for strengthening relationships and fostering collaboration. Thank you to everyone who attended and shared feedback. We are looking forward to hosting similar gatherings in the future.

Professional Development Day itself was a great reminder of the care and dedication each of you brings to our students and to one another. From breakout sessions with campus partners to strategic planning updates and recognition ceremonies, the day reflected our shared commitment to growth, resilience, and excellence.

I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to those who supported Orientation and other areas across the Health Center this summer. We paused OPS support this summer when no full time staff chose the 9- or 10-month appointment option. This initiative was still an important step toward addressing the seasonal reduction in patient demand and exploring sustainable staffing models. I recognize the learning curve involved and thank you for stepping into new roles with grace. We remain open to creative staffing solutions, including 9- or 10-month appointments, and welcome your ideas. Moving forward, we’ll ensure all staff are equipped with the information and training needed to assist across departments. And the offer still stands—if anyone is interested in a 9- or 10-month appointment, we will continue to consider this option for future positions, especially given the seasonal nature of college health.

Thank you to those of you who chose to take your vacations over the summer, allowing you to be fully present during the fall and spring semesters when student demand is highest. And for those who took extended time off this summer—thank you for adapting to the seasonal nature of our work.

Cross-training continues to be a priority, especially in areas like health insurance. A foundational understanding of insurance empowers us to provide comprehensive care and ensures we’re not overly reliant on a single team. I appreciate your efforts to support this initiative and encourage everyone to build confidence in answering basic insurance questions.

Our strategic planning efforts are gaining momentum, aligning our goals with both the Division of Student Affairs and the broader university mission. I’m proud that Hannah and I had the opportunity to share our process at the national ACHA conference, and I look forward to the next steps in our planning journey.

Finally, I want to recognize the incredible work you’ve done around trauma-informed care. Your participation in training—especially those who completed the full 10-hour course—demonstrates a deep commitment to fostering a psychologically safe environment. Special thanks to Angi Yoder Maina and the Resilience Institute for guiding us through some important discussions at our Professional Development Day. I enjoyed the conversations, hearing about some great ideas and with Angi’s help, I’m looking forward to reviewing all of the great ideas that came from the tables and look forward to seeing how together we can implement these ideas and continue becoming trauma-aware and resilience focused.

As we kick off the new semester, let’s keep leaning into the collaboration, flexibility, and care that make this team so special. I’m excited for what’s ahead and grateful to be on this journey with all of you.

Best,

Amy
