Thanks for your interest in the Florida State University Medical Response Unit.
The Medical Response Unit is staffed entirely by student volunteers. While it is not necessary that students be in pursuit of health-related degrees or careers in order to join, students should share our interest in the health and welfare of the campus population and be willing to commit to a considerable amount of training and activity outside of class.
If you are interested in becoming part of the Medical Response Unit, e-mail email@example.com or stop by room 1054 in the Wellness Center. To request the presence of the Medical Response Unit at a campus event, please fill out the event request form and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org
Membership in the Medical Response Unit requires that individuals successfully complete the following steps:
- First, students must obtain certification in Basic Life Support for the Health Care Provider. Courses that will enable students to meet this requirement are offered at FSU and throughout the local community.
- Next, enroll in and complete the enhanced Emergency Medical Responder class offered through the College of Human Sciences. This class entails approximately two semesters of training in emergency response, assessment and care skills, and the certification you receive will allow you to pursue more advanced training toward becoming an Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic. The first semester involves a three-credit hour lecture class. The second semester consists of field training with a preceptor to solidify the knowledge instilled by the course taken the previous semester.
- After completion of th Emergency Medical Responder training, students are asked to commit to at least one academic year of service. The service you provide can be recorded as ServScript volunteer hours on your transcript, and most Medical Response Unit members log between 60 and 70 hours of service each semester.
- The Medical Response Unit program demands hard work and dedication, but the experience is truly rewarding for those with a desire to make a difference in the campus community.
